Florence Cabulizan

Florence “Aunty Mai” Mulehahai Cabulizan, 64, of Waimea, died Jan. 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honokaa, she was a nursery worker for Hawaiian Foliage Nursery in Waikoloa and formerly a cafeteria worker for Waimea Elementary School.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at Spencer Beach Park in Kawaihae for a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by brothers, Bernaldo (Linda) Cabulizan, Maximo (Therisa) Cabulizan, both of Waimea; sisters, Betty (Mannie) Nobriga, of Kalopa, Rosalind (Enos) Mad, of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thomas Key

Thomas Kapono “Pono” Key, 34, of Waimea, died Jan. 6 at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a professional musician with the groups Puukapu & Mele Ke Mana.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 28 at Kahilu Theatre for a 10:30 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Johnalee Key, of Waimea; sons, Thomas Key Jr., Tahitoa Key, Tauarii Key, all of Waimea; daughter, Tahnia Key, of Waimea; parents, James Jr. and Lucy Key, of Waimea; brothers, James Key III, Henry Key, both of Waimea, Beaujack Key, of Ahualoa; sister, Sophia Key, of Waimea; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

James Rodrigues

James “Jimmy” Rodrigues, 81, of Ocean View, died Jan. 23 at his residence. Born July 23, 1930, in Kona, he was the proprietor of James Rodrigues dba J’s & D’s Construction and a member of the Hawaii Island Archery Club.

Friends may call at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 28 at Mokuaikaua Church in Kailua-Kona, for a 1 p.m. service. Urn burial follows at Kona Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by spouse, Dominga Rodrigues, of Ocean View; daughter, Rosemary (Gerald) Ekert, of Kona; sons, Joseph (Susan) Rodrigues, of Kasilof, Alaska, David (Laura) Rodrigues, of Volcano; brothers, Henry (Maise) Rodrigues, Robert (Terri) Henriques and Gilbert (Janet) Henriques, all of Kona; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.


Paul Takehiro

Paul Yoshitoku Takehiro, 82, of Hilo, died Jan. 9 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, he retired from the Hawaii Masons and Plasterers and was a member of Keaukaha Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 28 at the Keaukaha Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for an 11 a.m. service. Burial to follow at the Alae Cemetery, Mormon Section. Family requests aloha attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Margaret Takehiro, of Hilo; son, Paul Takehiro, of Hilo; daughters, Barbaralene Kaya, Cheryl Tomimatsu, both of Oahu, Kimberleen Takehiro, of Puna; stepson, William (Carolyn) Marshall, of Riverside, Calif.; brothers, Minoru (Kathy) Takehiro, of Hilo, Herald (Hilda) Takehiro, of Honolulu; sister, Hiroye (Michio) Niiya, of Honolulu; 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Hiroshi Fujimoto

Hiroshi Fujimoto, 88, of Laupahoehoe, died Jan. 19 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Laupahoehoe, he served in the Army and was retired as a road construction worker for Hamakua Sugar Co.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Jan. 30 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by son, Dwight Fujimoto ,of Laupahoehoe; brothers, Shigeru (Fujie) Fujimoto, of Honokaa, Akira Fujimot,o of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Christiane Carson

Christiane “Chris Girl” Alice Carson, 55, of Kailua-Kona and formerly of Puna, died Jan. 20 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 4, 1957, in Paris, she was a longtime employee of the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort and former longtime employee of Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel.

Friends may call at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Living Stones Church on Alii Drive for a service, followed by refreshments at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort’s Kalani Kai Restaurant next to Kahaluu Beach.

She is survived by son, Matthew Carson, of Kihei, Maui; daughters, Marianne Carson and Liana Carson, both of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Benjamin Dowling, of Honolulu, Samuel (Lily) Dowling, of Kapaa, Kauai, Edward Dowling, of Kailua-Kona, Craig (Joanne) Dowling, of Kaimuki, Oahu, Frank Dowling of Kailua, Oahu; a grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Esao Kitano

Esao “Jean” Kitano, 91, of Hilo, died Jan. 8 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 21, 1920, in Papaikou, she was a sales clerk at various stores in Hilo.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary offerings.

She is survived by son, Eric Kitano, of Hilo; two grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
